Breaking Barriers on Tillmac’s Corner Radio Show & An Invitation!

Hey Champions!

Yesterday, my sweetheart Dianne de Las Casas; her daughter, 15-year-old culinary celebrity Kid Chef Eliana; and I were on Tillmac’s Corner Radio Show on CrescentCityRadio.com with host, Tillmac, and his co-host, Corey Mack.

We had a great time talking about everything under the sun but specifically about my Breaking Barriers Book Birthday Bash on Sunday, June 5, 2016 from 1pm-4pm at Tubby & Coo’s Mid-City Book Shop.

About a month ago, we were on the show discussing the book and its contents. On this show, we talked specifically about the book bash and the wonderful food that is being catered by Kid Chef Eliana and her culinary team. They are preparing food for 300 people. The food includes Eliana’s signature “Pastalaya,” Lumpia (a Filipino egg roll), Mojo-Roasted Pork, and more.

10% of the net proceeds of the book sales benefit the Giving Hope foundation. Please come out and support a good cause as well as your local independent book store. We have a lot to do before the party but I am so grateful to my team for putting it all together!  I look forward to seeing y’all at the party!

Until next time…

Keep Breaking Barriers,

John

National Guard of Louisiana (NGALA) Conference

Hey Champions!
This past weekend, my sweetheart and VP, Dianne de Las Casas, and I attended the National Guard of Louisiana (NGALA) conference.

We were invited to participate in the event as sponsors by our dear friend, Lt. Col. Kenneth Baillie. This was the first time we saw our new company, Write Hook Media, on a sign as a sponsor/vendor. How cool is that?!

On late Friday afternoon, we set up our booth. Dianne did a great job putting the booth together. I love the display she created for my new book, Breaking Barriers: How to Knock Out Adversity and Live Life as a Champion.

On Friday evening, we attended a crawfish boil. Although Dianne is highly allergic to crawfish, we managed to keep her from exploding. LOL We met lots of great people and danced the night away to some great tunes.

The next day, we tended our booth and talked to soldiers and officers about our company and my new book. We sold a few books but more importantly, we made incredible contacts that could lead to big possibilities in the future. We were presented a certificate of appreciation for our participation as a sponsor and were even listed in the program for that evening’s gala.

On Saturday night, we attended an officers’ cocktail party and dinner gala. It was a phenomenal night and we made so many new friends! I am bummed that we didn’t get a picture with our friend, Lt. Col. Baillie, but since he is the conference organizer, he was pretty busy.

After the party, we headed to Lake Charles, Louisiana to visit with Josie and Clay Chretien, Dianne’s parents. Josie prepared quite the brunch spread for us! Clay grilled ribeye steaks while Josie made a huge fruit tray with her famous “heavenly fruit dip,” Filipino garlic fried rice, omelets with fresh produce from her garden, bagels, and the best grilled pineapple I have ever eaten in my life. I was so full I could barely move! LOL

We finished the relaxing Sunday by recording my Championship Minute in Josie’s front yard.

What a wonderful working weekend!

Until next time…

Keep Breaking Barriers,
John

Building a Network to Build Your Net Worth

Hey Champions!

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to meet and connect with New Orleans Saints Cornerback #28, Keenan Lewis. He was such a nice guy and we had a chance to talk a bit. I signed a copy of my new book, Breaking Barriers to him and he really appreciated it. He was kind enough to take a picture with me and my book.

I also reconnected with my dear friend, Jamil Jones, a very successful international businessman who owns a company that has offices in Louisiana, Colorado, and Dubai. Jamil and I go way back but we lost touch over the years. Through Facebook, we reconnected once more and met for dinner. I had such a good time talking, laughing, and discussing business possibilities.

Being around these two incredibly successful men reminded me that sometimes, we have to re-evaluate our network and the people with whom we spend the most time. Your net worth is a direct reflection of your network. If you want to be successful, surround yourself with successful people. In order to be a winner, you have to play on the field with other champions.

Here’s to your networking success!

Championship Minute – Vision

Hey Champions!

This week’s Championship Minute is all about Vision. Ten years ago, I lost the sight in my right eye. Last year, in a separate incident, I lost the sight in my left eye, leaving me legally blind. But just because I lost my sight does not mean I lost my vision. Watch the video for my big reveal!

Commanding Respect vs. Demanding Respeck

Hey Champions!

Recently, Cash Money music mogul, Birdman, visited the Power 105.1 FM radio station studio of The Breakfast Club, a syndicated morning talk show featuring radio personalities, Angela Yee, DJ Envy, and Charlamagne tha God. On that morning, Birdman entered the station with several members of his entourage. He confronted the three radio show hosts saying that they needed to “quit playing wit’ my name” and “put some respeck on it.”

You see, in the past, The Breakfast Club trio poked fun at Birdman’s name particularly because he is known for failing to properly compensate the artists on his music label, among other things. Birdman became enraged and lashed out at the hosts, demanding that they respect him. Unfortunately, because of the way he addressed them and the way he spoke, the encounter went exactly the opposite of what Birdman expected. Here is a clip of the incident.

The video went viral. So far, it has over 8.6 million views and spawned memes and spoof videos all over the Internet. People are capitalizing on this viral incident and even creating t-shirts! An acapella group called “The Hamiltones” wrote song about the entire encounter. The parody is funny and landed the group on The Breakfast Club morning show. Take a listen:

The lesson here is that respect cannot be demanded. It must be earned. If Birdman had addressed the show hosts in a non-confrontational manner, the entire encounter would have played out much differently. In fact, Birdman might have even commanded respect. So next time you want people to honor you, you should probably approach them with a level head and “put some respeck on it.”

Until next time…

Keep Breaking Barriers,
John
